What is cannabigerol (CBG)?

Cannabigerol (CBG) is a type of cannabinoid obtained from the cannabis plant. It is often called the mother of all cannabinoids. Indeed, other cannabinoids are
derived from cannabigerolic acid (CBGA), an acidic form of CBG. Other more common cannabinoids obtained from cannabis plants include cannabidiol (CBD) and
tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). CBG is found in smaller quantities than other cannabinoids in cannabis plants. In most strains of the plant, only 1% CBG is found, compared to 20-25% CBD or 25-30% THC. This makes consumer products derived from the cannabinoid rare and often expensive. However, CBG is gaining popularity due to the multitude of potential benefits the cannabinoid has to offer.

How is CBG manufactured?

CBG is derived from young cannabis plants because they contain higher amounts of CBG than fully grown plants. Certain cannabis strains, such as White CBG, Super Glue CBG, and Jack Frost CBG, also have a higher CBG content than other strains. These strains are specifically bred to produce greater quantities of CBG. Both CBD and THC begin with CBGA, an acidic form of CBG. This is why younger cannabis plants contain higher concentrations of CBG.

In fully grown plants with high concentrations of THC and CBD, you will find very low concentrations of CBG. This occurs because most of the CBG has already been converted into CBD and THC as the plant developed. Due to the difficulty of obtaining CBG, cannabis growers have experimented with crossbreeding and genetic manipulation to help cannabis plants produce more CBG.

How does CBG work?

To date, two cannabinoid receptors have been identified in the human body: CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors are found in the nervous system and brain, while CB2 receptors are found in the immune system and other parts of the body. CBG binds to these receptors and stimulates anandamide, a neurotransmitter that plays a role in appetite, depression, inflammation, and pain.

Potential benefits of CBG

Like CBD, CBG has been used to combat pain without the intoxicating effects of cannabinoids like THC. Research shows that CBG may also have therapeutic effects. However, human studies on this are scarce, and more research is needed in this area. Some promising animal studies suggest that CBG could ultimately be useful for the following therapeutic benefits listed below. Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD): Inflammatory bowel disease is a condition that causes chronic inflammation of the intestine. It affects millions of people worldwide and is incurable. An experimental animal study conducted in 2013 observed the beneficial effects of CBG on inflammatory bowel disease.

Researchers induced IBD-like inflammation in the colons of mice and then administered CBG. CBG was found to reduce inflammation and nitric oxide production. It also reduced the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the intestines. They concluded that CBG should be considered for clinical trials in IBD patients. In an animal study, researchers discovered that CBG has therapeutic potential for treating glaucoma. They administered CBG to cats with glaucoma and observed a reduction in intraocular pressure and an increase in the outflow of aqueous humor, a fluid produced by the eye that maintains intraocular pressure and nourishes the eye.

Huntington's disease

Huntington's disease is a condition that causes the degradation of nerve cells in the brain. In a 2015 study, researchers examined the potential neuroprotective properties of CBG and other cannabinoids in mice that had an experimental model of Huntington's disease. CBG was observed to act as a neuroprotectant, shielding nerve cells in the brain from damage. It also improves motor deficits and protects striatal neurons from the toxicity of 3-nitropropionic acid.⁴

Antibacterial properties

A 2020 study on the antibiotic potential of cannabis revealed that CBG has antibacterial properties, particularly against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), a bacterium that causes staph infections and is resistant to medication. Fighting cancer cells: In a 2014 study, researchers observed the effects of CBG on rats with colon cancer. They found that CBG showed promise in blocking receptors that promote cancer cell growth and inhibiting the growth of colorectal cancer cells. They suggested that the use of CBG should be considered for translational applications in the treatment and prevention of colon cancer.

PAIN, INFLAMMATION, SLEEP:

CBG has a significant effect on inflammation and pain thanks to its effectiveness on all types of inflammation. The
endocannabinoid system is connected to many organs in our body, allowing it to deliver essential cannabinoids to the right place at the right time. Indeed, if inflammation is
reduced, then pain will also be reduced. After a few doses of sublingual CBG oil, you will truly feel muscle relaxation, as well as relaxation in the tendons and joints. Physical and mental relaxation is felt rather quickly. The first dose will be effective for 3 to 4 hours, and then, after regular use providing your endocannabinoid system with a sufficient amount, its effectiveness will be fairly consistent and comfortable. You can then space out the doses of CBD or other types of cannabinoids to 6 to 8 hours between each intake.

For athletes: This product will help improve performance, as CBG enhances concentration and significantly reduces muscle and joint inflammation caused by impacts that put considerable stress on muscles, tendons, and joints. However, the 0.3% THC content in this sublingual oil is considered a performance-enhancing drug for elite athletes. In such cases, a Broad Spectrum sublingual oil should be used, as it is THC-free and therefore not considered a doping agent.

Buddha Farm's does not currently have this Broad Spectrum oil but can provide it to you within a few days and prepare your oil at the recommended percentage or as you wish.

How to use CBG?

The most common way to produce CBG for consumers is in oil form. You can get the benefits of CBG by using pure CBG oil. However, CBG oils are rare and expensive. The good news is that you can also experience some of the benefits of CBG by using broad-spectrum CBD oils. Broad-spectrum CBD oils contain all the cannabinoids found in a cannabis plant, including CBG, but they do not include THC. When cannabinoids are used together, they can enhance each other's effectiveness through a phenomenon called the entourage effect

BG vs. CBD: CBG is often compared to CBD because they share many similarities and both act on the endocannabinoid system. CBG and CBD are not psychoactive, meaning they won't alter your mood like THC does. However, they can reduce the psychoactive effects of THC if you consume cannabis.

One of the biggest differences between CBD and CBG is the amount found in most cannabis plants. Most cannabis plants contain only 1% CBG, but up to 25% CBD. The way CBG interacts with our endocannabinoid system is different from CBD. CBG binds directly to CB1 and CB2 receptors and may be more efficient at delivering its benefits within our systems. CBG is in short supply. The difficulties in producing CBG make it very rare. It is much harder to produce than other cannabinoids like THC and CBD. Because CBG shares many similarities with CBD, manufacturers often prefer to produce CBD.

When CBG is produced, the products derived from it are very expensive. However, CBG has a multitude of promising potential benefits, and more research is underway to facilitate the production and availability of the cannabinoid.

Instructions for use:

Place 1 to 4 drops of Buddha Farm's CBG oil under your tongue. Leave for 60 seconds before swallowing. Leave 6 to 8 hours between doses and repeat up to 3 times a day as needed. Individual effects vary and may differ depending on the person's condition, weight, and any existing medical history (refer to the dosage chart in store or ask a salesperson for advice). It is recommended to use the appropriate product but gradually increase the dosage in stages.
