Naturally secreted by the human body, melatonin has hormonal functions and helps regulate the sleep-wake cycle, among other things. It is therefore perfectly natural that the body produces more melatonin at night and a drastic decrease in the morning.
That being said, we understand the importance of this molecule and its proper secretion for the human body.
However, several factors can disrupt melatonin secretion in many people:
- Exposure to strong light, whether from artificial sources or even blue light, can be harmful. Blue light encourages the brain to stay awake, thus disrupting melatonin secretion
- Electromagnetic waves generated by the devices that surround us daily: cell towers and telephones, among others
- Age
- Taking certain medications
